BK Boreyko, Founder and CEO of Vemma, gives an insightful talk about the growing opportunities for innovative direct sales companies. There’s a growing demand in the marketplace for innovative products sold person to person.
What do you think about BK’s video? Can you think of any other comparisons between the direct sales industry and other business models doing well today?

I love it Kevin. The economy is changing faster every day. I think Crossfit is great as an exercise program and even a lifestyle, but it is also fascinating as a business model. It does not operate as a franchise, but best practices are shared among affiliates. The “thing” an affiliate purchases is the intellectual property right to use the name “Crossfit” in business. Many of the methodologies and training are given away for free, or nearly free ($25 per year for subscription to the Crossfit Journal). There are paid (and expensive) seminars for hard core enthusiasts, but someone could radically change their lifestyle without spending much money. Furthermore, it mainly grows by word of mouth – and results. Pretty fascinating business model for an affiliate owner, and for Crossfit HQ as a business. I know Crossfit as a business is booming since many people who purchase gym memberships and exercise equipment don’t always get the results they want. Thanks for posting.
